Gemma Ward on Hyams Beach, Jervis Bay

Vogue UK July 2006

These are a few images from a fashion shoot featuring Gemma Ward at Hyams Beach where I have been going to for holidays with my family for about 10 years now. I came across the shoot one day flicking through Bristish Vogue in a newsagency and recognised the beach straight away. Hyams Beach is certainitly one of the most beautiful beaches in the world with its crystal clear and turquoise waters. It is in the Guinness Book of Records for the whitest sand in the world. The sand is so white and fine that the light reflects of it - bring sunglasses! Some of my best childhood memories have taken place at Hyams Beach - building sand castles with my two brothers and sister, looking for crabs in the rock pools, going for long walks along the shore to the Naval base and swimming all day long.

I love the juxtaposition of evening glamour on a casaul beachy backdrop. I guess it goes back to my habit of always overdressing just that little bit, but only when I'm not forced to. I hate having to dress up for weddings, balls etc. because they force you to be glamourous, rather than effortless looking glamourous. There is something incredibly chic about going for a walk along the shore of the beach in a  embellished dress, barefoot, with the ocean breeze blowing through your hair - that's why beaches make such fabulous backdrops for a fashion shoot!

The season to be jolly!

Merry Christmas!!!
I hope my readers had a wonderful and joyous day filled with lots of Christmas cheer :)

I apologise for my lack of posts leading up to Christmas this month. I was very busy with work, getting ready for Christmas and I went away to my parent's holiday house at Hyams Beach for a while too - lots of beach inspired clothing pieces and fashion shoots to come soon!

Helena Christensen

I think this photo is so beautiful - the brass bed, crystal bed lamp, white sheets and of course of very chic looking Helena Christensen. It's so old-world and glamourous.

Black & White

I love this look for a casual day out - a white blouse, black pants, sunglasses and an enormous, attention demanding Fendi bag. Not to keen on the shoes but I would definitely wear the rest.

The Bee Hive

T Magazine Holiday 2009

For years now I've been a massive fan of the Bee Hive hairstyle. It's one of my favourite hairstyles for a formal occasion. I can never master it myself so I leave it to the hairdresser. I always have the problem that they try to make it too neat - I would prefer something messier like this.

Fringing

The Fashion Spot via All For Fashion

I have loved fringing on clothing since I was a kid. A couple of years ago I bought a white Charleston dress and I wore it so much. Sadly, the last time I wore it, a really good wash was needed and apparently it couldn't be dry cleaned, and it ended up falling apart. I now have a black one where the fringing is looped so it makes it much easier to wash. I have never seen a fringing jacket though like Kate's. I think it looks great!

Maxi Dress with Blazer

I think this looks fantastic. I usually don't wear a blazer over a maxi - I usually opt  for a scarf or a cropped fur coat but this pic has given me some inspiration to try it. I really like her bangles, chain bag and her hair looks great up too.

Jimmy Choo Gumboots

I am not really into the festival scene - the idea of being covered in dust and incredibly dirty for hours on end doesn't really appeal to me. However, if i was to attend another festival, this would definitely be my dream fesrival outfit. As for the Jimmy Choo Gumboots, they would be great for raining days or even trips to the snow (with thick socks underneath of course!).

Rachel Gilbert Maxi Dress

I've seen this Rachel Gilbert Maxi dress in a few boutiques now and I love its luxurious gypsy-quality. I think it is incredibly glamorous for a summer dress that can be worn casual with a pair of flat sandals during the day with a big floppy hat or out at night with skyscraper heels and enormous crystal earrings.

Show-stopping Assessories

Vogue Paris

I've come across this page out of Vogue Paris a few times now and there's just something great about it. I particularly like the black mini  dress in the bottom right corner.

I first saw this dress on Mischa Barton on The O.C. years ago. I've always admired the simplicity and beauty of Chanel Ads - one with in a fabulous, outfit and a chic backdrop.

My Lisa Ho Swimsuit

Madison Fashion Editorial

I was thrilled to come across this photo as I bought this swimsuit last summer. I absolutely love it because it's super flattering and doubles as a bodysuit for a night out. Unfortunately, as much as  would I want to, I don't think I could get away with accessorising it with a feather headdress and a parot but it looks great for a shoot!

The Denim Jacket

Natasha Poly in Vogue Paris June/July 2008
modelcouture via All For Fashion

Up until recently I hadn't worn a denim jacket since I was a little kid. I found a great-fitting one in Newtown (strip-shop district in Sydney's inner west) and have worn it a few times with my S&B Black Rats (I am a massive fan) or over a dress (both mini & maxi). I would never wear a denim jacket with jeans - that's just too much denim! I think its good to keep it down to one denim item at a time in order for it to remain fashion forward and edgy.

I want a white, one-shoulder dress like this to wear out at night this summer to mix up my mostly black evening attire. It reminds me of something a modern Grecian goddess would wear. I think it looks great with the YSL Tribute Sandals in the first pic with the black clutch.

Alexander McQueen Shoes

Although I would never wear these shoes on a normal night out (I don't think I would get further than a metre), they would be fabulous for a dress-up party. I think they are absolutely amazing despite them being incredible impractical. Who said fashion need to always be wearable anyway? I'd love to have them sitting on a shelf in my bedroom simply to be admired :)
