Rosie goes 80s Glam

Model: Rosie Huntington-Whiteley
Vogue Russia May 2010

I love these shots of Rosie as they are so 80s - but in a good way! Lace bodices, body-con dresses, gloves - makes me want to hit the dance floor! I bought an 80s Lisa Ho bodysuit a couple of weeks ago that I can't wait to wear. I think I particularly find the 80s trends fascinating because those are the looks which were my first glances at fashion as a child. The first two images definitely have something very Madonna-esque about them, with the second outfit a 2010 spin on the pink dress worn in Madonna's 1985 "Material Girl" video.

Military Madness

Unknown

There's something about military fashion that keeps it cool season after season. Adding a military coat, blazer, vest or hat instantly adds some edge to any outfit. Perhaps military helmets bursting with feathers are going a little too far, but in fashion fantasy land anything goes :)

Obsession of the Moment - Fuchsia Lips

After sticking to nude lips for such a long time (mixing nude coloured Mac Satin Lipstick with light pink Chanel Bon Bon gloss), I'm  ready to move onto something with a bit more colour. Purely for night time only though - too bold for daytime! Gorgeous hair and dress too.

Fashion Muse - Emmanuelle Alt

Emmanuelle Alt is the Fashion Director of Vogue Paris and a walking fashion icon. I love how she mixes jeans, leather pants, tshirts, blazers and over-the-knee boots to create an uber sexy yet casual look. What I would do for a closet full of Balmain like hers!

More Wonderland Madness

After my last post on all things Alice in Wonderland, I found this music video by Kerli off the Alice in Wonderland soundtrack "Almost Alice". The song has a teenybopper sound but is actually rather catchy after a couple of plays. The video which features a super glam tea party seems to me like a fusion of Alice in Wonderland with Marie Antoinette, which is another of my favourite movies. The costumes in the clip remind me of Playboy's Marie Antoinette costumes - mini couture gowns complete with suspender stockings.

Also, it's exciting to see that Top Hats are very much in fashion at the moment. On Saturday I went to the Surry Hills markets and there was a girl selling the most amazing hats. One in particular caught my eye, a miniature top hat with a feather. It would make for the perfect Racing Carnival outfit. There were lots of top hats in stores selling both new and vintage clothes in Surry Hills and I noticed when browsing through the best dressed photos from the Golden Slipper, that top hats featured in many of the outfits. I simply must get one!

Mad about Wonderland

 Alice: Have I gone mad?

The Hatter: I'm afraid so, you're entirely bonkers. But I'll tell you a secret. All the best people are.

The other night I finally watched Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland and once again I'm obsessed with what is in my opinion one of the best stories ever written. The Disney cartoon Alice in Wonderland is probably one of the first movies I can remember watching as a child and it has always been a favourite. It most probably sparked my love of pretty dressy, top hats, pocket watches, headbands and bows in hair, my fascination with the game of croquet and roses as my flower of choice. I'm clearly not the only person mad about Wonderland, as over the years the film has been recreated several times over including most recently by Tim Burton, Gwen Stefani used it  as the theme behind her videoclip for her single "What you waiting for?" and the theme has appeared  in both US Vogue and Harper's Bazaar fashion shoots, just to name a few. It's fabulous that this tale written by Lewis Carrol  in 1885 has stood the test of time and is still enjoyed by both adults and children. I've always wanted to have dress-up Mad Hatters Tea party complete with cocktails served in teapots and scrumptious cupcakes, followed by a crazy game of Croquette for a birthday, but perhaps to celebrate an Unbirthday would be more appropriate!
